Last night when I logged onto my blog, I noticed I had a new comment. When I looked down and read the comment I saw that Jessica from the fabulous site 'chronically vintage', had nominated me for the 'Lemonade Stand Award! :) I am so very grateful to her as this is my first fun blog award and she is such a lovely girl! :)

The Darling Buds Of May?

I don't know if anyone has ever read or seen 'The Darling Buds of May' but I would definitely recommend it. It's one of my mum's DVDs which I always borrow :s and is a series set in the 1950s in Kent, England. It is so funny and has really warm, and light hearted story lines. The clothes in the programme are also wonderful! Catherine Zeta Jones just looks stunning the whole way through the series and I love the way she does her hair! The dresses the girls wear are very pretty and are always lovely colours, the dress Mariette (Catherine Zeta Jones) is wearing in the photo above is one of my favourites, and the men's suites, including Pop Larkin's are so sweet! :)

At the beginning of the week I wrote an email to one of my favourite Authors: 'Paige Toon', congratulating her on her new book: 'Chasing Daisy'. I wasn't expecting to get anything back, but when I went on my computer this morning and logged onto Facebook I saw she has written a message on my wall :) I was very happy that she had taken the time to email me. I am also happy because she is writing a new book called 'Lilly' which is coming out around this time next year! :) I have read all of her books and I think she is just amazing! :D

I must admit that I feel quite nervous today. I'm going to a university open day, but I always get so nervous when I go to places I don't know. I reckon it will be fine when I get there, but the build up always gives me butterflies!

Hairdo and Lipstick

Last night whilst I was finishing watching Pearl Harbor I decided that I do actually love Kate Beckinsale's hair. This got me thinking. I decided to try and copy one of hair styles from the film and even though it was not as good as hers was, I thought I would wear my hair like it today when I went shopping with Sophie and Ambra. I did curl it though, because I often wear my hair straight so thought I'd opt. for something a bit different for a change! :)

My shopping experience was fun. I did my best not to buy any clothes, although I was majorly tempted by a pair of red, patent shoes; but I resisted the temptation of their beauty :s

I bought some items for my holiday, which included:

. A bright red lipstick (I adore red lipstick at the moment. It may have something to do with the fabulous film of 'Pearl Harbor'.

. Mascara

. Nail Varnish remover

. Kirby Grips

All exciting stuff :s

The weathers not so good here today, its a bit rainy and grey. When I got back from Lakeside I went in Sophie's new car :) She is learning to drive and decided to buy a second hand car which is a real beauty ;) Its a lovely black KA.

The rest of my day shall consist of chocolate and television I think. Tomorrow I'm going to pop into our local town for a few bits and pieces with my mum and then I'm going to Nandos in the evening :) Can't wait! I've even decided what I'm going to eat already! :)

One girl and her dog

Hay fever has gotten the better of me today, however this has not stopped me from venturing outside with my dog Barney :) The weather in England today has been rather pleasant, so off me and Barney went into the garden for the afternoon to collect our thoughts. Barney did however have other ideas about chasing my cat Kit around the garden, but Kit was having none of it!

Barney is one of those dogs who does not seem to have a care in the world! He is such a cutie and is always there to give you a hug if you need it! He is a bit bonkers at times, like he will randomly run round in circles or just sit there barking at nothing but he is very good natured and has a big heart! :)

When I woke up this morning I had a clear plan in my head of what I was going to do today. I thought I would plan what to pack for my not too distant holiday to Dorset, I would text my friend Ambra as she isn't too well and get a large part of my coursework out the way. However I only managed the two later plans as I could plan what to pack nearer the time.

That's the only trouble with summer holidays, the days I am not busy I get incredibly bored (and the holiday has only just started). I'm one of those people who needs to be kept occupied by something, like going out for a walk or blogging. I'm also one of those people who likes to be around others, and I think when I haven't got too much planned I do begin to feel kind of... bored. Anyway I'm going to enjoy the summer break as much as possible, as when I go back to college I'm probably going to feel a little bit more stressed with this being A-Level year and the University application process starts. Its all a bit scary to be honest! :S

I'm looking forward to Thursday, as I am going to another University induction day. This one is at 'City' in London. I've been told by my teachers that it is a really good university for children's nursing. It's interesting to go to different uni's as you are able to see what the courses look like. I really can't wait to go to Uni, I just hope I get accepted into the one I want to go to :)

A box of photos...

(My favourite picture :) I think my Nanny looks stunning! :D)

A box of photos under the stairs seems to contain so many memories of people from different times...

For the past week now I've been wanting to look at a large box of photos that we keep under the stairs of my mum's family. The box is crammed full of pictures of my family and their friends. So finally today my Dad said I could get them out from under the stairs.

I find the pictures so interesting to think that they would have been taken about 80 years ago! Its interesting to think what stories they have behind them.

This is a photo of my Great Auntie Joyce. Her little outfit is definitely a child's 1920s dress. I think she looks so sweet and adorable! Her hair looks beautiful! :)

I just love this picture of my Great auntie Joyce and my Nanny Jean! They look so sweet and happy and the fact that they are wearing matching outfits makes this photo even cuter!

(Nanny jean and Grandad Reg) It is quite difficult to see in this picture but the detail on my nanny's dress is GORGEOUS! It is covered with floral print. I seriously want this dress! :)

I just love the way that my Nana is wearing her hair in this photograph! I really would love to be able to do my hair in this style!

Also in this box of photographs I found this rather unique postcard which had been posted from France during the war. On the back of the card it wishes the receiver a Happy Christmas- 'Try not to eat too much' I love the detail of this picture and the bright hat that has been placed on top of the woman's head. Paris fashion cards are exquisite!

My mum said that she loved this dress when she was a little girl! She loved the fact that it was turquoise and pink. This photo was taken at her Dad's Christmas party :)

This is one of my mum's least favourite outfits! When I first saw this I creased up! Bless her, she had to wear this for a dance show and she always tells me that her beak was made out of a duster! (Hehe :D)

Its amazing how nurses uniforms have changed during history. This picture is of one of my Great Grandmothers friends during the First World War. There appears to be a lot more of a uniform than there does today.

I was very impressed when I found out that my Great Grandad's cousin was a famous English Cricket player called Headly Verity :) My mum was flicking through the paper the other day and actually spotted an article of him in the 'Daily Mail' :D

This picture shows my Dad's dad (my Grandpa) in the Navy during World War 2. He looks so young. Not much older than myself I would imagine! Its so strange to think people of my age would have been fighting in the war! :o So brave!

I am exceptionally proud of my family!

A long, long day...

As I've finished college for the summer, some of my friends and myself went to see 'Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince' yesterday evening and the final verdict was: AMAZING! It was so good! I've liked all of the Harry Potter films, but I'm thinking as they go on they are becoming better and better. The fact that it is dark to an extent but adds a lot of humour in it as well makes it even better! Theres a real mix of material!
My favourite quote of the day was from my friend Jess: 'Ohh so who have we got here then?!' :)

In the evening we came back to my house and had pizza whilst having a good old chat :) It was a really nice night! I do think I'm going to have to see Harry Potter at least 2 more times now! :D

Today I went with my parents to an art place called 'Waterperry'. My mum is heavily into art and always likes looking around places like this. It was very crowded and sold lots of different things. I have been feeling rather tired today so I did feel rather ratty because of it. I found the exhibition ok, but there was not as much there as there was last year I felt. My mum seemed to enjoy it so that's good. It was extremely muddy, but that is what you expect from a typical British summer isn't it? It really reminded me that I should get some wellies soon or for next year!

There was a stall in the main 'market tent' which sold some really interesting facial and hand products, all the way from Scotland. They are made from natural ingredients one of these being seaweed. The smell of some of the items are out of this world! As I get quite chapped hands the lady recommended me a really nice body lotion. I was getting ready to pay her when she said I could have it for free as it was a new product and she wanted some feedback on the lotion. I am very grateful to her. The product was worth £10 as well!

Those summer days...

As from yesterday I have officially broken up from college for the summer! :) I have lots and lots of nice things planned this summer and can't wait! I love college but it will be nice to have a break (even though I have quite a bit of homework to do! :s)

I'm going to miss the college baguettes at lunch! You see on most days of the week I buy a cheese baguette at the canteen without fail! They are soooo nice, the canteen staff even can predict what I'm going to have :) Its great! They said to me 'Kirsty what are you going to do over the summer without your baguettes? We should deliver one to you every day' My friends and myself find this hilarious! :)

Tomorrow I am going to see the new Harry Potter film with some friends, I can't wait! Apparently its hilarious! I hope so, you've got to love a funny film haven't you? :) I also LOVE Luna's clothes in the film she has such a cool and quirky style!

I woke up this morning worried because I had to go to the dentist (not any ones favourite treat) but it went OK thankfully, so nothing to worry about there... I hope :s

I haven't had too much to do for the rest of today, however I did finish the book I got out of the library on Tuesday. It was really good, but was extremely sad at one point in the book, and I actually cried (I don't think I've ever cried at a book before!) Its by the author Paige Toon. I thought because I had read other books I should read this one. At the start I was a bit apprehensive about reading it and wasn't too sure because it didn't seem like it was going to be as good as her other books... I was wrong! It was a mixture of both funny and sad. I preferred the happy parts though! :D Its called 'Chasing Daisy'.

I bought some new books for my holiday actually. I am a bit of a sucker for judging a book by its cover unfortunately, but you know! They do look really good. I love the cover of one of them:

Her dress is lovely and really reminds me of a dress one of my friend's has, she got it from H+M and it is sooooooo pretty! I love pictures like this because they really show a different time from today! :) Why can't fashion still be like this?

Cat in a box!

After watching 'Pearl Harbour' for about the hundredth time on Saturday, I realised how brave the soldiers and citizens must have been through this difficult time! I love this film so much and I really think it gets the message across to the terrible circumstances that world war 2 held!

Theres another part of the film I absolutely love and that is the costumes used. The clothes they wear are stunning and the hair styles and lipsticks are so realistic! The men's army uniforms are also brilliantly mastered. Strangely enough I was routing around the cupboard under the stairs and I found that my dad has an American air force leather jacket (My dad has style! :o)

I think that actress 'Kate Beckinsale' plays the part brilliantly and really looks the part. Her dark brown hair and dark red lips really look as though she has stepped straight out of the 1940s.

In fact I think all of the women in the film look fabulous! The hairstyles are absolutely gorgeous (I just wish I knew how to do my hair like this!?) The picture above is one of my favourites from the film. The nurses uniforms are so unique and quite different from today but yet they look so adorable and ready to help others! In the film I find it ever so sad when 'Betty' is killed. She was such a nice and fun loving character. It really makes me cry when Sandra and so speechless about what has happened (as you would be) that she feels as though she doesn't know what to do. The fact that they just had to carry on is admirable .

If you have not seen 'Pearl Harbour' and you have fancied watching it, I would advise it because I find it such a brilliant film which if you like a bit of romance mixed with action is perfect for you!


In further news, which is not related to the film above ;) Yesterday I had an interview at a volunteering agency called HAVCO it was really interesting and I even got a chance to have a further interview at a company called 'Little Treasures'. It works with children and their families and is really a worthwhile, generous and kind organisation! I can't wait to start working there over the summer holidays! :D On this same day my friend Madison won the College Poetry competition! I want to congratulate her on her success. She really is an exceptional writer and defiantly has the ability to pursue her longed for writing career! Her blog is proof of this. To check her blog out click here: Madison!


I actually came down my stairs yesterday morning to find my cat 'Lucy' sitting in a box on my kitchen table! It was very random and she is a strange little weirdo but I love her for it! :)
Cats have such strange and wonderful ways! Every time we take our cats to the vets for a checkup, the vets can never hear their hearts as they purr to loudly (haha!)

Even my doggys Teddy and Barney are so hilarious to watch! Barney is a big softy and so is Teddy but he is bonkas! :)

'I do like to be beside the seaside!'

What a fabulous day I have just had, very adventurous!

I went with my parents to a place about 1 hour and 30 minutes away from where we live. It was much larger than I had expected with craft centres, wildlife and I even found an antiques shop to my delight :)

In this shop I found an adorable 1950s bag which I already love and it was a real bargain! Its difficult to see the detail in the picture below, but it is very pretty and in really good condition!

After having our lunch in a sweet little tea room (Cheese Jacket potato and for dessert chocolate cake :) we drove down the road to a seaside town. It was quite breezy on the beach and my hat nearly fell off! But in the actual town it was very warm and sunny!

When I got home I thought I would look through some family photo albums and found an album that my mum had made up of old pictures of my grandparents taken during the war. The clothes they wear in the pictures are absolutely lovely. I even found a picture of my Mum's dad in the RAF and my Dad's dad in the Navy. Fascinating!

Carnaby Street

Its always lovely to go out for the day with your friends to London or anywhere really! Yesterday was particularly enjoyable. Madison, Ambra, Debra and Me decided to go up to a shop called 'Lazy Oaf' in Carnaby Street because they were having a sale. So after my driving lesson (I got into third gear after many attempts and did a hill start! :) I met Madi and Ambra at the station where we took the C2C to meet Debra. Debra had had her hair cut and it looks really really pretty! By the time we had gotten to the part of London we needed to get to (Because so many different train lines were not running and so a normal 1 hour journey took about 2 hours), Debra had to go back to meet some of her other friends. But it was still GREAT to catch up with her! :D

As we trudged through the rain (yes it was once again raining in July can you believe it?) we reached out destination. The shop was located in the sweetest little place called 'Kingley Court'. The shop was tiny but sold some really nice items. I must admit, I didn't buy anything there like intended, but it was still really nice (probably did my money some good to have a rest! ;) This was until we noticed that located next to this shop was in fact a 'vintage store'! We went in there and it was packed full of beautiful dresses, bags, shoes and hats. They even had a jewelery and hair clip/pin section. My weakness gave in and I bought 3 lovely hair clips (pictured below)...

We went to Covent Garden afterwards and visited a charity shop :) then after getting a bit lost (:s) we walked to the nearest station to get the train back. It was a really lovely (but tiring) day, in which my friends even quizzed me maths questions to help me with future tests! Thank you girls!

Today I am going to visit a place with my parents called 'Snape'. It is a seaside area with a craft centre and restaurant. It should be quite nice considering its already gloomy at 8:25am outside. It may brighten up you never know!

'Shakes and Cakes'

Yesterday was a really enjoyable day :)

To start of with I had to go into college for a test which involved me doing a discussion with 3 of my health and social friends which was actually quite good because it wasn't a proper exam it was basically having a long chat to your friends about the topic we had chosen to talk about which reflected health matters.

I met up with some of my old weekend work friends. It was really nice to catch up because they are such a lovely group of girls! Anyway because we met up quite late notice we decided to pop into Romford for a bit of a shop (Or window shop in my case :s)
I really wasn't planning on buying anything (I always say this) but when I came across these lovely red, heart sunglasses I could not say no! They were only £1.00 (bargain!)
When it got to about 4ish we went in an ice cream parlour called 'Cakes and Shakes', I didn't get one to myself but Kelly and Jess let me have some of theirs and it was lovely. Mango sorbet and Bubblegum sorbet is really really refreshing!

Anyway I had to get home because a couple of my friends were coming round for the evening, so I had to tidy my messy room and then I was delighted when Madison gave me a present :D I opened it to find the cutest little key chain and fridge magnet which reads 'I thought I was indecisive but now I'm not sure'- It sums me up to a T. In some of my other posts I have said that I was an indecisive person and this fridge magnet does prove this! Thank you so much for the pressies Madi! :) I LOVE them! x

Today I'm going to the 'Cardrome' for a driving lesson. I always get slightly nervous before hand but I hope it shall be ok. Then at 10:00am I'm off to London for the 'Lazy Oaf' sale with Ambra and Madison :) Should be fun, I may have to buy something there just because :s

Decisions, Decisions...

Even though I'm not going on holiday for a little while yet, I felt like I should decide what I am going to take with me (This is very difficult!) I have quite a lot of clothes which is good but I'm hopeless at making decisions! When I think I've made my mind up, I'll change it again! Seriously, its beginning to get very annoying! Then I have to make sure that everything goes with one another! ;)

Any who I decided that because I can not possibly take all of my wardrobe with me (even though I really would like to! :) I narrowed it down in the end. Some how I managed to end up with a LOT of different shoes, but as long as I can fit them in my suitcase it looks like they will all be coming with me! :D (I may have to sit on my suitcase to see if it closes but I'll worry about that nearer the time ;)

I'm not at college today because we have the day off so I decided that I would go and get my haircut this afternoon, nothing fancy just a trim and then I haven't got much else to do. I should really help my mum with some housework because I feel a bit mean that shes trying to studying for her art degree, whilst I'm just lazing around!

In slightly different news, I've always really liked 'The Fratellis', but at the moment I am becoming quite obsessed again :s. Looks like they will be reminding me of the summer of 2009 this year, like 'Muse' remind me of the summer of 2008 :)

My friends and I really wanted to go to 'The V Festival' this year, but we never got round to arranging it, so I'm hoping we can go next year even though we are probably going to go on holiday together as well, which will be soooooo COOOL! I can't wait! :)

I've decided that I'm going to take my 'Pink and Red flower dress' from the wonderful 'Trollied Dolly' :) They sell such sweet and lovely garments, really vintage looking. I got this dress from their stall at 'The London Clothes Show' this year and I am in love with it! :D I'm not sure if their website is up and running yet, but when it is you should check it out! http://www.trollieddolly.com/

Harry Potter

For those of you who don't know me I am a HUGE Harry Potter fan! :) and yesterday I was really excited because me and my friend Sophie were going to go to Leister Square to see the premiere of the Half Blood Prince. The only trouble was that I had college all day (The one day that I would have liked to have had a half day but no!) Anyway in Health and Social my friends Leia and Sav were also excited about having the chance of seeing the premiere to, as they had a half day and so were going to the premiere at 12. By the time I had gotten out of my English class (at 4!), I actually ran to the station and then got the tube to Leister Square. By the time I had got there the rain had ABSOLUTELY fallen out of the sky and the place was packed solid. It was really good to go but slightly disappointing that I didn't get to see Ron :(

Anyway at least now I will be prepared to leave earlier (in the morning, or camp there as my friend Dawn suggested ;) for next years premiere.

Leia and Sav did so well to get lots of pictures of the cast and guess what... They even got to hug Rupert Grint! :o

New shoes!

My plans for the day actually were achieved... Homework, hoofer my room and do my ironing! I was pretty impressed that I didn't get distracted and actually stuck to my daily plan! =)

I was watching Wimbledon, but I got a bit preoccupied reading a book that I bought yesterday... Its called 'The Grafton Girls' By Annie Groves. Its a really really good book about 4 working girls during world war two, if you like stuff like that then I'd recommend it! =)

After my driving lesson yesterday, which I very much enjoyed and actually got to go into second gear (Scary times!) I went to Lakeside to get some stuff for holiday. I got a book, a really nice dress and top from the 'Dotty Ps' sale :D and some very nice shoes! =)

Back to college tomorrow and off to the Harry Potter Premiere on Tuesday evening. Ron = <3
